The Challenge
Adding dark mode to an existing WordPress theme normally means forking the stylesheet and maintaining a second set of colours forever. Naive CSS inversion breaks logos, screenshots and brand colours, and most existing plugins gave the owner no way to fix individual elements without writing CSS.
What We Built
Dusky adds a real dark mode to any theme, with the controls to correct anything the automatic pass gets wrong.
- Frontend dark mode that adapts to the active theme instead of blanket-inverting it.
- Auto-match OS theme — respects the visitor’s system preference on first load.
- Scheduled dark mode — switch automatically between set hours.
- 40+ toggle buttons plus a floating toggle switch, positionable anywhere on the page.
- Live dark mode editing — adjust colours on the real page and see the result immediately.
- Ready-made colour presets for teams that want a good result without tuning anything.
- Image replacement — swap logos and screenshots for dark-mode variants so nothing is washed out.
- Custom CSS integration for the last few per-element overrides.
- Dashboard analytics — how many visitors actually use dark mode.
Compatibility
Dusky was tested against Elementor, Gutenberg, Astra, Avada, Divi, OceanWP, The7 and aThemes builds, with the optimised, security-reviewed codebase the rest of the CodeConfig catalogue is held to.
Design & Marketing
We designed the plugin UI, the live editor, the toggle button library, and the marketing site — including the interactive dark-mode demo that lets visitors try the product before installing it.
