How to Add Interactive Layers

Interactive layers in WP Media Player are overlays that appear over the video at a timestamp you choose. The email capture layer is free; CTA cards, hotspots, ads, and shortcode layers are Pro.

Open the Layer Picker

Open the video in the media editor and go to the Layers section. Click Add Layer to open the type picker.

Add a CTA Layer (Pro)

Choose Call to Action. Set the Display Time — the moment in seconds when the CTA appears. Toggle Allow Skip if the viewer can dismiss it. Type the Headline and Button Text, choose colors, then position by dragging on the preview or picking a corner.

Add a Hotspot Layer (Pro)

Choose Hotspot. Click on the video preview to place the marker. Set the Display Time and add a Tooltip — the text the viewer sees on hover or click. Set a URL to make the hotspot link to any page, or leave it empty for an info tooltip only.

Add an Ad or Shortcode Layer (Pro)

Ad: Choose Ad to place a promotional overlay. Set the display time, duration, headline, and description. Toggle Allow Skip with a Skip After countdown.

Shortcode: Choose Shortcode to render any WordPress shortcode at a specific timestamp. Paste the shortcode and set the display time.

Manage Layers

Each layer appears in a list under Layers. Click the edit icon to modify time, content, or position. Click delete to remove it. Save the media item to apply changes.

What to Check

• The layer appears at the correct timestamp in the preview
• CTAs and hotspots are positioned correctly on the frame
• The skip button appears for ad layers after the countdown
