How to Use Player Presets
A player preset in WP Media Player is a reusable configuration that sets the skin, visible controls, and playback behavior for any video. Six free skins ship with the plugin. Pick one as the global default or apply a different preset to each video individually.
The Six Free Skins
Each preset has a distinct visual layout and a different set of controls enabled by default. The skin controls the CSS structure and which controls component renders; the controls array determines which buttons appear.
Classic — All 13 controls enabled. A flat control bar sits below the video with a separate time slider above it. This is the default preset for every new install.
Modern — All 13 controls enabled. The time slider sits inline inside the bottom bar for a tighter, more contemporary look.
Simple — A clean, minimal control set. Backward, forward, current time, volume, playback speed, Picture-in-Picture, settings, and captions are hidden. Play, progress bar, fullscreen, playlist toggle, and chapters remain visible.
Standard — All 13 controls enabled. A distinct layout places current time and duration labels on either side of the progress bar.
Floating — Backward, forward, and Picture-in-Picture are hidden. The control bar floats at the bottom of the player with all other controls visible.
Minimal — The most reduced set. Only play and playlist toggle remain. The progress bar, current time, volume, settings, playback speed, fullscreen, Picture-in-Picture, captions, and chapters are all hidden. A centered play button appears in the middle of the video frame.
Apply a Preset to a Video
Open the video in the media editor. In the Preset dropdown, choose the skin you want. The live preview on the left updates instantly so you can confirm the layout and controls before saving.
The preset you pick here overrides the global default for this video only. To change the default for every new video, go to WP Media Player > Settings > General and set Default Preset to your preferred skin.
What to Check
- The correct skin name appears in the Preset dropdown after saving
- The control bar layout matches the preset description
- Only the expected controls are visible in the player preview
